About The Obsolete Media Site

Mission:
To provide an online reference source for obsolete media that have been used for audio and visual storage. Examples include cassette tapes. 8-track tapes, prerecorded open reel (reel to reel) tapes, vinyl discs and photographic films. Details about each medium and the hardware used with them are included.

Background:
Although these media were once very popular, little information exists online about their use.

Scope:
Our main focus is to provide details about the hardware used to play the media. We have concentrated our research on items made in the United States during the period 1950-1983.

Content:

Although all data are believed to be correct, their publication includes no warranties, either stated or implied. Any liabilities for damages resulting from their use are explicitly denied.
